Mechanically excellent, everything here functions as it should. The film compartment, pressure plate, mirror box, battery compartment, pentaprism, and viewfinder are all clean. The focusing screen shows very slight marks from age but these do not impact operation or images. The dials, knobs, and levers all actuate exactly as they should. The light meter is fully functional, and all shutter speeds are accurate. 

The lens is similarly excellent, with no damage or mechanical issues. The glass elements are free of fungus, balsam separation, scratches, or other optical aberrations. The aperture blades are oil free and actuate beautifully. The focus ring spins with nice weight, and the aperture ring clicks with mechanical precision. 

This is one of Canon's finest manual focus lenses, with a fast maximum aperture of F/1.8. This lens will produce excellent low-light images, and allow for easy shooting of street photography or similar styles of photography in which available light is the norm. Stop the lens down and it becomes incredibly crisp and sharp.

The AE-1 is the camera that made Canon a powerhouse amongst SLR producers, and signaled their intent as a world-class camera maker.
